Ecolab Unveils New Arpal Group Management Structure

After 39 years’ service to the Arpal Group, Robin Leith retired in the Spring as Group Managing Director following the retirement of Geoff Adam, Chairman in December 2017. The remaining Arpal board members, Martin Carroll (Technical Director) and John Taylor (Finance Director) and Max Adam, now form the backbone of the company’s new Management Board chaired by Ecolab’s Alex Johnson, who has been appointed Integration Lead.
Reflecting on the acquisition Robin said, “In terms of the principles and aspirations of what we want to achieve – Ecolab and Arpal are very similar, albeit there are differences in the way we go about achieving them; this is largely because of comparative scale and flexibility. One of the key ways we have succeeded in competing in the UK & Ireland markets over the years is through solid customer relationships and service delivery, which I believe are world class. Ecolab is a global leader and will bring great strength to areas that we have not had the required expertise or sufficient in-house resources. Today, our combined ambition is to focus on the well-being of the customer always, so it’s perfect fit for us.”
Max Adam joins Ecolab’s European Institutional Marketing team, as Marketing Director – INTEGRATION and is Arpal’s project lead on the product and equipment portfolio programme and part of marketing communications team. The project aims to identify gaps in the existing Arpal range and to help design and implement cross-selling opportunities through Ecolab’s innovation and new product development programmes.
Lee-Anne Gillie remains in role as Operations Director, responsible for maintaining Arpal’s renowned reputation for outstanding customer service, as well as providing oversight with the UK’s Long-Term Care sector. Hugh Hunter remains in role as Sales Director, responsible for Arpal sales throughout the UK & Ireland, supplied by the company’s regional and national logistics distributor network serving end user customers in the hospitality and leisure sectors. Both have joined Arpal’s new management board and now report into Aaron Gardiner, VP Institutional Market North, who leads the combined Ecolab and Arpal sales function.
Aaron, says, “As part of the integration process we set out some key principles. Firstly, we needed to look, listen and learn, and then take a measured approach to ensure a thorough understanding of both businesses to enable us to formulate a robust future strategy for the UK & Ireland. Secondly, we need to ensure that we play to the combined strengths of each business in terms of products, dosing systems and the customer service offering. But most importantly, we are also looking to see how we leverage the combined talent and experience to build a first-class team of people to best serve our customers.”
