Sofidel UK upsurge in results for Tissue range and AFH
There has been an upsurge in results at the UK arm of the manufacturer behind the Regina and Thirst Pockets brands, according to new figures.
Sofidel UK, who have Leicester headquarters, have recently reported a turnover of £278.7m for the year to 31 December 2018, up from £263.4m in the prior 12 months.
The company’s pre-tax profits also increased from £24.2m to £26.1m over the same period.
The business is part of the wider Sofidel group which is headquartered in Italy and whoses brands include Softis, Le Trefle, Sopalin, KittenSoft, Nalys, Cosynel, Yumy, Lyche, Forest, Nicky and Papernet.
The UK arm added that its performance was continued to be disrupted following a fire at one of its paper manufacturing factories in November 2017.
The blaze reduced production capacity in the first half of the year while capacity was not fully reinstated to normal levels until May 2018.
A statement signed off by the board said: “The directors are satisfied with the company’s performance in another challenging year.
“External factors continue to have significant impact on the performance of the business.
“These include exceptionally high pulp prices, the impact of adverse foreign currency exchange rates between pounds sterling and euro and US dollar as well as supply chain pressures caused by a lack of drivers in the market place.
“Nevertheless, despite these conditions, the company achieved pleasing growth in turnover and endeavoured to maintain margin by increasing efficiency.”
